Professional Information

Environmental Engineer

I hold a BS in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University and have 10+ years of experience working as an environmental engineer and consultant for a variety of industries, including but not limited to petroleum production and refining, power generation, railroads and heavy equipment construction and maintenance. I am currently looking for employment in this field within a 35-mile radius of Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, Iowa.  Please see my resume' page for more information regarding my work experience and skills.

Hynek's Handmade

In 2010, I opened Hynek's Handmade, an Etsy on-line store selling primarlily handmade childrens' clothing and accessories.  This provides an outlet for my creativity and gives me a wonderful excuse to enjoy my love of knitting and sewing.  Please see the link in the side bar for a look at my online store.

Other Information

I was raised in Texas, with most of my childhood spent in San Angelo.  I moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1999 after meeting the wonderful man who would become my husband in 2003.  We moved to Iowa in late 2003 and have no plans to move ever again.  We have two children, DS1 (aka Monkey Boy) age 5 and DS2 (aka Monkadoodle) age 3. Life if good!

I have been Stay-at-Home-Mommy since 2006. My free time, if you can call it that, is spent divided across my main interests, fiction writing, gardening, cooking, sewing, and knitting.

I have participated in National Novel Writing Month every November since 2007.  My 2009 book has the most potential for publishing and I plan to persue this as soon as I get it finished.

We have a garden every summer.  I try to can enough of our produce so as to never purchase canned tomatos, catsup, applesauce, spaghetti sauce, salsa, pickles, or relish.  I received a pressure canner for Christmas 2009 so I am hoping to expand my canning to include other vegetables.  Homegrown is always better than store bought!
